The Corporate Council on Africa (CCA) along with U.S. Agency for International Development have partnered to create the Public-Private Agriculture Initiative (PPAI).  PPAI is a three-year process designed to organize and implement Pillar 2 of the Comprehensive African Agriculture Development Program (CAADP).  These actions are grouped into three flexible categories:

  • Strengthening the capacity of Africa's Regional Economic Communities (RECs);
  • Engaging the private sector and increasing its voice in policymaking processes;
  • Facilitating business and trade linkages regionally and globally.

Mars Sets Goal for Sustainable Cocoa Sources · 4/10/2009
McLean candy giant Mars said yesterday that all its chocolate products will be made from sustainable sources by 2020, and it will begin with a popular candy bar sold in Britain. The company said the move is intended to help secure a steady supply of a crop whose production is often threatened by harsh weather in West Africa and whose price is volatile.
